Despite what you might think about social media at this particular moment, the internet can still be a pretty amazing place to connect with fellow creatives. I met the dynamic duo of model Christina (Teeny) and published European fashion stylist Laura Narmon online, and we met up for a brisk fall Friday afternoon in Oak Park to capture two stunning looks. While we’d only spoken virtually before pulling everything together, it was delightfully quick work to click as a team, and with a tight time crunch between projects we pulled off one of my favorite shoots to date! Read more for details on the ‘fits, and how we made an unlikely setting our perfect backdrop.
Our tight timeline to capture these looks meant finding our backdrops and executing with little time to spare. Because of our schedules and relative locations, we decided to meet in Downtown Oak Park, an area I’m very familiar with. The construction on Lake Street that’s taken over the area for the better part of this year meant we encountered little foot traffic (yay!) but a whole lot of orange cones and debris to navigate (boo!). The end result: a gritty background of stacked pallets to contrast with the silhouette and *deconstruction* (first and only pun of the post, I’ll leave you alone) of this badass blazer. Teeny jumped right in, with Laura close (but not too close!) by to style this look to absolute perfection.
Teeny strutted her stuff across the pavement of this (perfectly color coordinated) parking lot directly across the street from our pallet moment, creating beautiful angles against the blue skies and building behind her. Laura paired this Dries Van Noten dress with Schutz platforms for this second look and like Teeny’ s poses… I’m obsessed. These COLORS! I’m a big fan of mixing a print when maintaining color coordination and she knocked it out of the park. For anyone who avoids wearing pants like I do (i.e. at every opportunity) this dress is exactly the look I’d rock to slay both in comfort and in style. For autumn days in Chicago where it can go from 50 to 70 on a dime, this is the perfect combination to see out these last sunny days.
And the shoes… the royal we loves a platform, and the animal print tied in the black bow with the peeping shoulder detail so, so well.
Teeny and Laura were an absolute pleasure to work with, and I can’t wait to see what looks they bring to life next!
